Bringing home a new puppy is one of the most exciting moments for any family. At The Klepper Homestead, we know just how much joy a Standard Poodle or Aussiedoodle can bring into your life. But before your new best friend walks through the door, there are a few things you can do to make the transition smoother for both you and your puppy.

🐾 Gather Your Puppy Essentials

Before your puppy arrives, make sure you’ve stocked up on the basics:

  • Crate – A safe space for rest and house training.

  • Food & Bowls – High-quality food recommended by us, plus sturdy bowls.

  • Bedding & Toys – Comfort items and safe chew toys to keep your puppy busy.

  • Grooming Supplies – Brushes, combs, and shampoo suited for curly or wavy coats.

  • Collar, Leash & ID Tag – Essentials for walks and safety.

Having these ready will make the first days much easier.

🏡 Puppy-Proof Your Home

Puppies are naturally curious, so it’s important to create a safe environment:

  • Block off unsafe areas with baby gates.

  • Hide electrical cords and remove small objects they could swallow.

  • Set up a designated potty area outdoors.

This step will prevent accidents and help your puppy learn the rules of your home quickly.

📅 Establish a Routine Early

Consistency is key when raising a confident, well-mannered puppy. Begin with:

  • Feeding schedule – Same times each day.

  • Potty breaks – Frequent trips outside, especially after meals and naps.

  • Crate time – Use the crate for short naps and bedtime to build comfort.

Your puppy will thrive when they know what to expect.

🩺 Plan for Your First Vet Visit

Within the first week, schedule a checkup with your veterinarian. Bring any records we provide from The Klepper Homestead, and discuss vaccines, parasite prevention, and microchipping if not already completed.

🕒 The First 48 Hours

The first couple of days can feel overwhelming for your puppy. Expect extra cuddles, some accidents, and maybe a few restless nights. Stay patient, keep things calm, and focus on bonding. Your puppy will soon settle in and start feeling at home.

💛 Final Thoughts

Bringing home a Standard Poodle or Aussiedoodle puppy is the start of a wonderful journey. With a little preparation, you’ll set the stage for a smooth transition and a lifetime of love and companionship.
